Why is the merchant asking for a PIN when I used my Visa previously and a PIN was not required?
Merchants may request a PIN for MasterCard transactions, but not for Visa transactions, mainly because of differences in transaction fees set by card processors. Using a PIN can lower transaction fees by reducing fraud risk for the processor. This approach may also encourage customers to use debit cards, which typically have lower processing costs than credit cards. Additionally, some merchants require a PIN to enhance security, particularly in environments where privacy may be limited.
It’s important for consumers to be aware of these practices and to consider the security implications of using a PIN for credit card transactions. While some merchants may not require a PIN, it is generally advisable to use a PIN for added security, especially when making larger purchases or when using debit cards.
Please be advised that this matter is beyond our control, as it pertains to the network.
If I have multiple accounts, will each account receive a new card?
Yes, every debit card you currently have will be replaced with a new Mastercard debit card.
Will I continue to enjoy free ATM access at all Farmers & Traders Bank locations?
Yes, you will continue to enjoy free ATM access with your new Mastercard debit card at our branch locations.
How do I ensure I will receive my new debit card?
Please call us at (606) 668-3115 and/or visit one of our branch locations to confirm your address.
When should I destroy my old Visa debit card?
You may destroy your Visa debit card once your new Mastercard debit card has been activated.
What do I need to do for any digital wallets, automatic payments or automatic payment apps (Amazon, PayPal, Venmo)?
Your new Mastercard debit card will have a new card number. So, any auto payments tied to your existing debit card will need to be updated with your newly issued debit card information. Please note, your bank account number will not change. So, any payments utilizing your routing and account number will not be affected.
What if I have recurring payments set up on my existing card?
You will need to contact any merchants that automatically charge your existing debit card to provide your new card number and expiration date. This can frequently be done online with each merchant.
Can my branch issue a new Mastercard debit card for me if I should need it?
We offer instant issue debit cards at our Main Office so, if your new card does not arrive in the mail or is damaged, we will be able to assist you with a new card.
I’m waiting for a refund on my current Visa® debit card, will this be affected?
Any returns for purchases originally charged to your Visa® debit card can be processed using your new Mastercard debit card.
Will this change from Visa to Mastercard affect any items I am currently returning?
Most return credits should not be affected, as credits can post to a closed debit card.
Will my new Mastercard debit card be updated in BRELLA mobile card controls?
No, you will need to update your BRELLA mobile app with your new card number and remove the old card from your app.
I had exception limits on my card related to POS (purchases), out of country exceptions, and/or daily limits, will this still be offered?
Yes, these options will still be offered so please contact us at (606) 668-3115 to ensure these exceptions are added to your new card. You can make some of these updates such as out of country travel exceptions using your BRELLA app as an added convenience.

My old card (Visa) offered the ability for me to personalize the artwork (i.e. photo debit card). Why doesn’t my new Mastercard have the photo?
With the Mastercard upgrade, debit card personalization is no longer available. We do offer a number of different designs through our Instant Issue in-branch debit card program so you can ask about this option with any customer service representative.
Are digital wallets such as Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Samsung Pay still available with Mastercard?
Yes, these options will be available; however, initially, this will not be an option on your new Mastercard debit card due to restrictions from our processor. We expect these services to resume within the next couple of months and will notify customers via our website when this option is available. Both Visa and Mastercard have a standard policy that new card BINs must wait approximately six months before allowing digital wallet options.
Why did I receive more than one new Mastercard Debit Card in the mail?
We reissued all Visa cards that were classified as active, issued, or warm status. This indicates that you may have held more than one card with the us. Please contact us with any questions at (606) 668-3115.
I had fraud on my Visa card or it was lost or stolen, and came into the branch on November 2, 2026. The branch issued me a card immediately (i.e. Instant Issue); but I also received a card in the mail? Why?
When you visited the branch, we issued you a card to ensure uninterrupted access to your deposited funds. However, this action did not prevent the continued production of more than 2,000 cards which included your previous card as part of the mass. Please contact us at (606) 668-3115 with any questions.
What will happen to my debit card if I update my mailing address?
If you update your mailing address after 10/15/2026 which is our cutoff date for the mass mailing of all new debit cards to our customers, your card may be returned undeliverable due to this mailing change. Please contact us at (606) 668-3115 if you have not received your card by November 15th, 2026. All undeliverable cards will be sent to our Main Office location for tracking and customer contact.
